Valparaiso

Valparaiso is one of the nicest areas of Chilè. The city is known for always being the first to obtain certain qualities, such as; the first to have electricity in Chilè, the first to have their own functioning fire station, public library, and Naval base.

The city as a whole is one with a surplus of amount of character and creative ways of showing what exactly it means to the citizens to be Chilean. During the late 1800's is when the economy of Chilè began their upward climb in the system. The ones with the most power were those of political power for the reasons of selling silver and coal. The country of Chilè during the same time period discovered nitrates in the desert, which is also known to the natives and the "land of nobody". The nitrates were sold in the city of Valparaiso. The nitrates sold brought tons of money into the country. This therefore made the port of Valparaiso even more special since it lies right next to the capital, Santiago and houses the congress building.

Sadly in 1906 the city of Varparaiso experienced a tragic earthquake. The earthquake left the city full of disaster and most of its occupants moved to a newly developed city also located next to the ocean. Valparaiso is the first official stop on the water south of Chile. The shore is constantly lined with a variety of ships. Overall the city and port of Valparaiso is known to be a leader not a follower and is a great representation of the country Chile.
